Have you ever found yourself in a position where Easter or another holiday is just around the corner? All of the sudden you have some great ideas you want to implement for the service, but you have no time to make it all happen. A church’s life is really active and hard to keep up with at times.
I am a big proponent of having a calendar with due dates with adequate lead times. If it is October, you and your staff need to be talking about the Christmas service. If it is February, you need to be thinking Easter and so forth. Get out in front of these special and sacred days and you can prepare a wonderful and meaningful service that can change lives. This goes for all kinds of events during the year: VBS, July 4, Thanksgiving, Pentecost Sunday, Palm Sunday, and the list can go on and on.
This is especially true if you are preparing videos. If you want to have a video for the Christmas season, you will likely need to shoot it the Christmas before for the full affect. Same is true for something like VBS. If you want to promote it with a video you need to make sure to shoot some video the year before and have it on hand. Always be thinking ahead. If you want a spring feel video for Easter, thinking about it in February will likely do you no good as you would have to shoot in the dead of winter.
Do yourself a favor and start addressing services and promotions far in advance. You will have less stress in your life and the experience will be much more effective for those that attend the service(s).
