First of all, we should establish what a brand is. At its simplest form a brand is what someone thinks about when something or someone is mentioned. If someone mentions Nike to you, most people think of shoes. However, Nike has much more than shoes but shoes are at their core.

It is easy to get off on a tangent when trying to discover ways of improving a brand. Obviously you could get a lot of attention if you offered everyone an Ice Cream Sunday when they come to church but does that speak to who you are as a church? A good blend of activities should paint this picture. Being Active in your community is key. People need to see you as a significant resource to them. Good deeds in the community can make a huge difference but you also need to be strong inside the church. When new people choose to attend your church (maybe because of something you did in the community) they need to feel like they belong. Not as an outsider. Being a loving and welcoming church is an appealing brand to people.
By being consistent and keeping your priorities right you in turn can be trusted. Inconsistent communication can be devastating. All communication needs to strategically build your brand and it is an ongoing process. Remember, a brand can build itself but wouldn’t you want to have some say in it? As a church you have a message. If your brand does not support this core message you will struggle to reach new people and help those that are already part of your congregation.
